Before talking about what circlip pliers are and what they do, it is useful to give general information about the circlip. Because it may not be very healthy to try to repair a part without knowing exactly what it is or to buy a repair material for that part.
Functions of the Ring
The word segment is one of the most common terms especially in the automotive industry. The most basic task of the ring is to provide gas tightness between the piston and the cylinder. The segments are in the form of steel rings resistant to very high temperatures. These steel rings also prevent the gases coming out of the combustion chamber from entering the cartel.
One of the important tasks of the rings is to transfer the high heat that occurs in the piston to the cylinder wall. In this way, it contributes to the cooling of the piston.
After the engine starts to work, the temperature starts to increase in and around the piston. This temperature causes thermal expansion as the engine continues to run. This causes a small gap between the piston and the cylinder wall. High pressure combustion gases and air-fuel mixture are likely to escape through this cavity into the cylinder block. Segments are used to eliminate this possibility. This ring, which is used between the piston and the cylinders, is called the compression ring.
One of the important functions of the rings in the engine is to fit the excess oil on the cylinder surface. In this process, a thin oil layer is formed between the piston and the cylinder. This thin layer formed not only ensures the lubrication of the cylinders, but also prevents the engine from burning oil.
The Importance of the Segment
In case of any problem in the rings, the first malfunction that may occur is oil leakage. When the oil from the pistons passes into the cylinder, a malfunction called oil burning of the engine occurs.
The absence of rings in the engines means excessive friction in the engine parts.
In cases where the ring does not fully perform its duty, excess oil in the cylinder cannot be stripped and combustion may occur. In this combustion, high temperature occurs and the piston either does not work efficiently or does not work at all.
Rings are generally divided into two as inner ring and outer ring. The sizes of the rings also vary according to the types, the size of the engine used and the cylinder diameter. Although these measures vary, basically these differences have been created within a certain standard.
What are the Ring Materials and Features?
As Cer-Pa Norm, we have the kinds of pliers needed in all kinds of ring repairs in our portfolio. As we mentioned above, segments are generally of two types. These are the inner ring and the outer ring. The pliers needed in the repair of these two different segments are also different from each other.
One of the pliers needed for inner ring repair is springless and curved inner ring pliers. These pliers you have in our portfolio come in three types, 140 mm, 180 mm and 225 mm. The weights of these forceps are 100 gr, which is 14mm, 145 gr, which is 180 mm, and 235 gr, which is 225 mm.
Another circlip pliers that can be used in inner ring repair are springless and flat inner ring pliers. These collets are in the dimensions of 140 mm, 180 mm, 225 mm, just like the curved inner ring collets. However, their weights are different. The 140 mm springless flat inner circlip collet weighs 105 gr, the 180 mm springless flat inner circlip collet weighs 150 gr, and the 225 mm model weighs 240 gr.
The common features of both straight and curved collets in our internal circlip collet category are that they are made of hardened chrome-vanadium steel. Again, both models of our inner ring collets have a black phosphate coated body. All our circlip collets are covered with PVC plastic for easier use.
In addition to the inner circlip collets in our portfolio, the outer circlip collets are also available in three different models according to their size and weight. Outer circlip collets are curved spring and flat spring collets. Spring and curved outer ring collets are divided into three as 140 mm, 180 mm and 225 mm. Their weight is 140 mm spring curved outer circlip pliers 95 gr, 180 mm spring curved outer circlip pliers 135 g and 225 mm spring curved outer circlip pliers 225 g.
Although the spring flat outer circlip collets have the same dimensions as the spring curved outer circlip collets, their weights are different. 140 mm spring flat outer circlip collet comes in 100 gr, 180 mm spring flat outer circlip collet with 145 gr and 225 mm spring flat outer circlip collet 220 gr.
Outer circlip collets are also products of the same quality and produced from the same materials as inner circlip collets. The outer circlip collets have pusher springs, unlike the inner circlip collets. Again, our outer circlip collets have ergonomic handles covered with PVC plastic, just like our inner circlip collets.
